Her Guidance
He undergoes a shift in mood
From ecstasy to near despair
It leaves him in a certain hell
An abyss in a single room
But his love emerges from the rain
Despite the stilling of her heart
She yet desires to comfort him
And settles gently by his side
He senses her, and that could be
Enough to guide him through the night
Still elusive to this world
She leads him to eternal light.
From ecstasy to near despair
It leaves him in a certain hell
An abyss in a single room
But his love emerges from the rain
Despite the stilling of her heart
She yet desires to comfort him
And settles gently by his side
He senses her, and that could be
Enough to guide him through the night
Still elusive to this world
She leads him to eternal light.

It's the spiritual connection that really counts, even if a love has passed away. Death doesn't have the last word. Thank you Brenda!

Very true, even if it's a ghost, or simply a memory. Better by far to have a living, breathing companion. Thank you!

Beautiful write Crowfly. I feel these words. This world, for those left behind by loved ones, is a living hell. Sometimes the person who has passed was actually the main reason those left behind saw the beauty of life itself. If it makes sense. Indeed many things have become unbearable for those left grieving. Life doesn't make any sense at all. Death is a consequence of life, but it is cruel when it takes away a loved one, maybe the only one that actually loved us back totally. Forgive my foolishness in this comment, but in it's beauty, this write opens a lot scars. Thank you my friend for this gift. It brought me down to earth. Hugs J

Your comment made my day, J. You take the time to express your reaction with real depth. I agree that the departure of a loved one is devastating, but I'm a believer in the hereafter, and the possibility of further comfort from those who passed, and that they are still present to supply continued warmth. I may, indeed, have felt a ghost, one of benign intent. They didn't have to say a word, but it felt like I was being held, in a way. And to top it off I closed my eyes but still saw a pulsing light. It might have been a spiritual awakening, or just my fevered imagination. Either way it made a profound impression. Thank you so much my friend!

Yes, it just takes a little practice, and an open mind and heart. Thanks for the kind words Bender!

I'm one of the few survivors remaining from my family. There was one suicide involved. I do sense that they observe me, and might occasionally prod in the right direction, Thank you poetOftragedy!

This write made me think of my morning. I’ve always felt the presence of someone but ignorant to who they are. It’s a shame really since it is always felt when I feel myself free falling into dispare. It would be nice to know who I’m thinking.
Well inked dearest Crow.

Feeling the presence may be enough. Could be an angel, or a benign form of ghost. Thanks so much!

I really liked how this poem deals with the (sometimes) painful experience of the presence of those who have departed this realm. 30 years ago I had two such 'visits' from my recently deceased father, confirming beyond any doubt for me the continuation of life beyond this earth. The after-effect I found to be a tricky mix of both comfort and anguish - a sense your poem deals with in a sensitive manner. Thank you for writing it.
{The penultimate line doesn't fit the regular scansion. Is this deliberate to reflect the word 'elusive'? (I'm just curious to know)}

What I felt might have been the presence of my mother who, at that time, was recently deceased.
I'll have to check that line, and I'll get back to you. It was probably an error on my part.

Once one loses the fear of death life is all the more bearable. Thank you Rjm!

Awesome write, Crowfly, it seems to depict hope even as one goes through an episode of darkness in one's life.

Yes, and the hope for me is lasting. I remember the "presence" when I'm feeling down. It helps immeasurably. Thank you!
