Before I Go Blind
Before I go blind
I would like to see
my children
one last time
Before I go blind
I would like to see
man's inhumanity to man
dissolve before my eyes
Before I go blind
I would like to see
the countries of the world
unite under a single flag
free from the foolishness
of religion
Before I go blind
I would like to see
an end to war
hunger and disease
the end of suffering
and inequality
Now it is winter
and before I go blind
I would like to see
a summer sky
with my love smiling down
one last memory
that I may cherish
through all my days
before the last tears
I shall ever cry
And because I am human
if I must choose
one final frozen frame
to warm the darkness
I would say
let me see that now
one last time
so I might understand
that like us all
I am already
blind inside
I would like to see

Not when that's happening to you it isn't, Priya. Under all the sentiment I hoped there was something a tad more sinister lurking. Happy New Year to one of my favourite poets on DUP.

Its true A, that pain is lovely only in poetry,never for the sufferer,I hadnt thought of that.And now as i read it again, there is a sinister twist lurking in the last stanza with the final announcement that for all the persona's deviant thoughts, he/she too is blind like others, sorry i misread you.Happy New Year in advance to one of my fav poets here too A.:-)

Yes, it's actually loosely based on my own mother who is almost blind now - but she manages to compensate in lots of other ways which I find truly inspirational.
