The Disappearance of Nancy
She lives in the moment
not by choice
short-term going first
accelerating its absence
old faces still familiar
names are fading
Filled with joy
when loved ones are seen
hugs tight
"It's been so long"
so happy to greet them again
twenty minutes later
Most of her life spent as a nurse
a good one, she'll tell you
like her mother before
such impatience with being a patient
on the wrong side of care
Her husband, her children
foundations of her heart
not lost
not yet
holding breaths
embracing each day
and waiting

Thank you. It's been difficult to find the emotional space to sit, reflect, and write. I wasn't intentionally trying to be ambiguous, this is just how it looks to me, how it is unfolding. From my perspective, it's obvious. Though, through your comment, I can see how it would be less obvious to someone not in it themselves. Appreciate you taking the time to comment in detail.

Thank you. I was wondering if there was enough of her in it. She's still so much herself, yet not, and I wasn't sure how to put that on a page.

It resonates with those of us who have been through it.

That means a lot to me, and it's what I was most hoping for. Thank you for saying that, and for the alter ego reading list addition.

Astute observation, Paperstains. Very poetically portrayed.
Nice to see you back.

Thank you. I'm quite out of practice, but this one wanted out. I'm not sure how back I am, but I'm going to try to make more time for it. It was so nice to see your comment. I appreciate you taking the time to read it.

I am thrilled you back, albeit with a poem which resonates so loud to me as church bells wrapped around my neck. Keep them coming P x

Such a sad thing to have to go through, for the person and their loved ones...
Really touching piece... You poured your heart into it, I can feel... ❤️

I'm glad that you still get to see her cheer up, though I know it's difficult and hurts that she doesn't know you as her son. I have not been through that with a parent, so I haven't experience this sort of loss to that degree.
