scrabble
All my life I've had to scrabble
just to overcome the babble
from the mainly brainless rabble
who maintained the female kind
were simpering, stupid, weak and blind
You'd think that after all this time
we'd have it more together...
to modernize archaic mores... and
improve our moral bellwether...

Author's Note
back in the 70's many guys would sit around touting "Women's Lib" out of one side of their mouths while ignoring the women at the table... they just didn't get it... surprisingly, that thinking is still around... peeking out from the dark...way more men are liberated nowadays... but the machismo lives on, especially in those who need a scapegoat to blame for their failings...
Look at the femicides on the border, and the groping on buses in DF... spousal abuse in the US and gang rape in India... not to mention Sharia Law in Saudi Arabia. I think we got aways to go yet.

Bless you... those who stubbornly insist on preaching the old ways... are shortchanging all of us...

it takes time ... but at least we have a woman Poet Laureate ... wonder who will get the post next year after Carol Ann Duffy's 10 years are up?

Sorry Ely that you have that experience...
I guess in my upbringing and for my generation things are very different. I probably spent more time with men than with women and I hardly ever felt that way. I have worked on costruction sites and have travelled alone. Even here in Mexico, I feel more curiosity from men towards my tomboyish ways, than being looked down on. I ignore the ones that raise an eyebrow. Maybe try hanging out around the younger dudes.

Re: Re. scrabble
No worry, Ange... life's experiences are what made me... I was a total tomboy... first girl on the rifle team at UH... helped organize the first all- girl rodeos in Texas while still in High School... went hunting with my father, took medals in Archery and Riflery...and I hung out with the boys too... I have always been more interested in science than dolls...
Nope...a lot of the men I am referring to, were very "enlightened"... on the surface... they believed it but had no idea what "it" was...
However... when it came down to actions...like a round-table discussion... they were retrograde... they could NOT act on it... they didn't understand how... I think there's a learning curve... Ely

Short and to the point! Very good write!
(The 'woman' question still remains unresolved and a lot of the problems - some of which you refer to - still persist.)
