Scarborough Affair
the day saw me trembling
in my broken orchard thoughts
the wind blew magpies through my soul
my bewildered dawn of reckoning
spoke stars of wisdom in glass jars
they cast little light;
hidden in the closet of my dread
ghosts wept in my diary
they sought asylum;
from tear-stained pages
ripped out of my heart
captive midnights were angry
to be bound by desires unashamed
they fought the good fight and died inside
on all the moons I beheld your face
blackened by the night's shady double-dealing
in repose, I repent the day's bloody sunrise
the woman got to her feet
she kept her femininity secreted away
held for ransom emotionally bankrupt
a lady in anguish her lusts robbed
the thief, a clown made a prison break
escaped with his heart
while I grieved in the naked light;
of the Scarborough affair
inside the silence of my valentine
all my memories are laundered
kept, pressed and found to be fair

for some reason as I read your lyrical cascade I heard in my head "are you going to Scarborough Fair"playing...another sensational multi-dimensional weave Brenda...

Nothing as romantic as the song portrays - but one of the more pleasant UK seaside resorts/towns. Always fascinates the whole of this country would probably fit into one US State.

This is one of my favorite of yours. Favorite stanza (a hard choice):
captive midnights were angry
to be bound by desires unashamed
they fought the good fight and died inside
For some reason I thought of the Simon and Garfunkle tune. This is a different story entirely, entirely Crim, and none other. Love this!

Packed with gorgeous metaphors, just about every line. Really awing to contemplate. I'll need to go over it again at different times to find new perspective. Great work Brenda.

I need to read this one a few times... the depths are something to be pondered and highly admired.
Next time I find myself in Scarborough, I just know I’ll think of you ;)

I see layers of multiple nocturnal realities here: a gothic violation...a Poe dream...a silent film of emotional nudity...
I could feel the shadows of this like a black and white photo. Reminds me very much of the original graphic novel of The Crow by James O’barr (though I do have a special place in my heart for the Brandon Lee film). The rawness of emotion and starkness of the deep, moonlit landscape...extremely vivid. Well done!
