Still Life
in the silence I found me
an old black and white photograph
still life
a memory of when it was simple
caught on camera
reaching for the sun
smiling at her daddy
a blonde little girl
snapshots
an old truck
a man coming home
waiting at the window
as he comes into view
watching as he worked in the shop
always took time for her
his litttle girl
gifted
a writer
an artist
a man with a heart
saw art in the the faces of humanity
a vagrant
the addict
an old man forgotten
X
captured them still life
shared his gift with his daughter
it wasn't until the cameras stopped rolling
revelation
worlds apart, yet
in the end so much like him

What reflections come with posthumous memories. Sad that we probably don't catch them when they happen, as are mind is too immature due to age. We have a belief of immortality. Nothing can truly change. Sadly, this is an illusion and when we do wake up, it is sadly too late. As always you bring me to meditate on my own life and relationships with my parents. My mom was a simple but extremely strong woman. I didn't understand then and only after she passed, like a leaf taken away from the wind, did I realise that I lost the only person who truly loved me as I am. Beautiful poem my dear. Love you so much. J.

thank you dearest Juvenalis for such a thoughtful comment... yes I didn't fully appreciate all the facets of him when he was living...maybe not even until I realized he was always there for me and though our opinions differed we were so much the same...I love that you shared me a vision of your own mom...
I cherish you beautiful soul 💕
love & hugs...

They tell stories long forgot. I love flipping through the old black and whites of my grandparents era.

In some ways this reminds me of the relationship I had with my own father. He has passed, but his influence still remains. Excellent write Crim!

Some people can shape so much of us that it becomes difficult to see when they begin and you end. Emotive work.
