Summer Wind

images shimmer behind heavy lids
light flickers behind blinds
sheer curtains gently sway in breeze
soft whispers
heat waves
caressing her awake
tender fingers
prying her out of restful dreams

why should she rise?
nothing to greet her but the day
she's seen them before
how they strectch out
long
empty
unraveling
in the light

most of the time
she doesn't even know
what day it is
certain the calendar lies
that August has arrived

perhaps she has slept
too long
her being shaking loose
the need to rise
no longer a yawn
but a scream
