Rainbow promises

We took to the field,
eleven flowers in bloom
white, blue and yellow,
tractor tracks fading in the grass,
stubble crisp and dry snapping
under foot as yesterday,
mole hills dissolved
in yesterday’s rain.
A heavy storm  brewing
sun-beams on the farm
contrasting with the sky,
grey battle ships
War-like threats of rain,
rainbow promises above
the farm house roof
bathed in evening sun-beams
gold bars to light the rainbow
rain soon, feel it in the breeze.
"Come on Jack, let's go home."
Through the wood and gate,
October can’t be trusted,
fickle as last year.
They say its rain all week,
spuds not in, fields to plough,
one maize field to go.
.
