The Singer
Alfred Deller ( counter tenor BBC 3 October 2010)
Alfred Deller reintroduced the art of the high tenor voice in 1950s his son Mark also sang as counter tenor in the Cathedral Choir Salisbury Uk; another fine musician.-
He sang of Barbara Allen
voice clear as a lute
or glass harmonica
tuned with cooling wine
from St.Cecilia's spring,
perfect pitch and true,
calming like rare tea
drunk in shallow bowls.
Voice higher than
ambition, beyond dreaming
he sang of Barbara Allen.
