Dragging William
William was loving and William was kind
He said he wanted to marry me
Inside of every person we know
Is a person we don’t know
After I became his bride,
It didn’t take long for things to change.
Everyday I woke up behind enemy lines
Living with the threat of hurt.
The smell of a rat calls the boa.
I became his hunting grounds,
And I became his prey,
Becoming timid and withdrawn
Something in me knew I'd be dragging William
I felt sick at my stomach
Every time his car pulled into the driveway.
Often dinner was just the first paw out of the cave
When he started to complain.
I could never be a subtle letdown
Explaining myself was not an option
Every day was gray,
Every weekend was black
After a while I had no words,
My tears said it all.
Blood stains on my pillow
He had an appetite for abuse and
In times of famine nothing was sacred!
Especially if he’d been kissing whiskey
The demons of his vices were dragging William
The taste of blood, another busted lip
Make up and sunglasses
To disguise my black eye
How long before he takes it too far
Then on the darkest of nights
I reached for the gun
In the nightstand drawer
He came at me, I took a stand
I couldn’t take it anymore
His body hit the floor
I dug a shallow grave
And started dragging William
