Marvin the Martian's Packing Heat

We erected the Temple
Of God
In the cryogenic mist;

The Tree of Life, copper;
The sky,
Blue phosphorescence.

Angels, we hung from the
Piping;
Artemis, from the Tree.

The devils, we left to drift
Far aft
In the burn, 3 million degrees.

And all the while, we rode
The blast
Across the solar glyph,

And wondered out loud
How long it'd last
If we hit a magnetic rift.

We cascaded across
Camelopardalis,
And found a stellar corpse,

But neither could we sack
The Pleiades,
And continued on our course.

Worlds appeared, and were
Plundered,
Like in the days of Rome.

Then, decades we'd drift in
Silence;
Darkness, all alone.

The dead, we recycled for
Centuries;
We placed their souls on a chip,

And watched them pay for their sins
In real time,
Like we were on some acid trip.

And Earth, to us, means
Nothing,
Not its people, nor their dreams,

And should we ever return
Again,
It'll just be to fuel this machine,

For we are the crew of the
Theseus,
And Diana is our Queen.
