dark eyed and peaceful

to be
myself
allow it all
to melt
away
into the
wood
markings of her chest
fluid
like the ground
 beneath
 her feet

she pronounced
words in slurs
little covens of belief
 cornering the mazes
of the tiny
 narrow caves
of the streams
the pebbles made of carbon calcium
 the same
as her teeth

chartering new territory
hooves of golden
 fur approached by softened skin
short haired graced
by a long mane
beautiful nostrils

sitting and breathing
by
grazing horses
 eating wild grasses
in the warm wind
graced by the morning's dew

she found
a place to be
free
a place to be
among the little bugs
 that sing
to find
the field mice
breathing so quickly
 dark eyed and peaceful
