Remembered Pain

Remembered Pain

If ever was a time I was grateful,
I’d willingly and openly admit,
It is in every remembrance of my pain
Although I wouldn’t want to revisit it

Appreciative of every tear I cried
And every dire experience,
If it were not for the dreadful,
I could not have exercised my resilience

Sometimes, parts of me miss the sadness...
For it became portioned of my identity,
Much of it helped to rebuild my character,
Defining my life as I discovered serenity within me

Both light and dark are shades of me
I admire this created art
My colorful life has sculptured me
And made whole of this fragmented heart

Remembered pain, I do not wish to forget
Nor the journey from there to here
I wish not to overlook where I’ve been,
Feeling all that I worked for would disappear
