Final Forest Haikus 10.0
(i) Vivid
Large clump of green ferns
Like a beautiful peacock
Just more emerald
(ii) The Fallen
Fallen trees are fine
When nature can take its course
Chain saws not welcome
(iii) Brown
Autumn brown leaves
Littering the forest floor
Green ones coming
(iv) Go Viral
Spirits beckon me
The power of forest trees
Natures’ infection
(v) Electricity Pass
Forest lacks sockets
Nowhere to charge my cell phone
I do not miss it
(vi) It's Alive
Treetops wave hello
There is no wind to speak of
They are so alive
(vii) A Wake
Shed a forest tear
The fairies join in mourning
Loathed to say goodbye
(viii) Pondering
I sit and ponder
A deep sadness fills my soul
Has the magic left
(ix) Funeral
It feels like I've died
Forest comrades no more
Like death: all is still
(x) Question
I left the forest
Slowly and for the last time
Am I really out

used to wonder what was the difference
between a forest and a wood
since they were both made of
the same stuff .. :)

After working for the Dept. of Natural Resources for 23 years, I can tell you David, you're never out.
Just resting for the next season. But, it you get a chance to visit in the Winter, do so, and you'll find a whole different world from the other seasons and just as beautiful only in a different aspect.
Loved your thoughts and pen on this,

One thing I have learned is that we may leave the forest but it never leaves us. It's in our synapses and every breath and dream we hold. It's a bond too tight to be left behind. The forest goes with you, in your heart and in your mind. Cherish that gift. If the world doesn't mend its bad habits, our forests are in serious danger. These are beautiful, David. Simply beautiful. Big forest hugs for you :)

I have loved these forest haikus, David. I hope you will continue in tribute despite location.
I would suggest the following alternative to (i)
(i) Vivid
Large clump of green ferns
Like a beautiful peacock
Just [more emerald]
I loved (iv). The rest moved me. Carry on, friend. You will rally again.

Reading through these from 1-10 felt like getting blown to and fro in a blustery wind..
In 1 4 5 & 6 you capture the last lingerings of life that the forest had to share, while the other haikus attest to the realities setting in..
Very emotional throughout, like each just might be a leaf falling slowly to the ground, settling into stillness.
Don't lose your spark with the change of seasons mister! Your forest haikus have been a green delight to bask in :)))
