the fates have bidden
alone i wept in the dark
my screams died
in guilt's choking embrace
no one heard
or ever peaked in
on the little girl lost
I was hiding within
she trembled
& shrank away
from the voices
that pointed & laughed
telling her she was of no use
& just no damned good
she wore wickedness
as a barricade
for any foolish enough to come in
to frighten anyone
who came close enough
to her true self she hid
with a pain she held tight
she walked through everyday
aching & crying
she felt herself fade
then with a mirror
you shone light
on what i thought was well hidden
& with your words
uttered come out
into my love you are bidden
with a fierce braveness
your poetry sang to me
untied my binds
& gently opened my eyes
so I might see
a new dawn
where i too
can run free
in the sanctuary
that the fates
have so wonderfully gifted me
