Crippled Cat
Don’t look at me like that
Like you’re looking at a crippled cat
Or an abused donkey or a three legged dog
The mist in your head has become a fog
I don’t want or need your pity party
Won’t take your pity sex no matter how tarty
And while we’re on the subject ‘I’m not fuckin deaf!’
‘I’m not fuckin retarded I’m not short of breath,
‘So don’t talk about me behind my back
Especially while I’m still there about the sense I lack’
I don’t drool like a fool
I don’t smell like a stool
I don’t have shit for brains
I’m certainly not insane
I am just a man with no legs
Whose heart and soul begs
For friendship and love
Human; not from the above
Oh for a human touch
Is that asking too much?
How about hugging me
Feeling inside of me
Oh to be treated as an equal
Instead of a bad movie sequel
Is it any surprise
I have tears in my eyes
Every day awakes
Every day my heart breaks
But nobody knows
That's how it goes
All these things left unsaid
Just all crashing in my head
And I drop my head with a forced smile
And I am even sadder for a while

You don’t want their pity because they think you less, but rather their compassion because you receive less than you deserve. I feel you man. Big American Bear Hugs to you.
Thank you for the write.

David my friend, I have endless hugs for you from sunrise to sunset and while the moon is glowing...those who are so ignorant deserve none of your attention...if one will judge based on outward appearances, they must be living such a lonely life...they would be the ones deserving of pity...
Extra warm endless fuzzies have been sent to wrap you up!!

that would be awesome my friend - there is only the silent few - poets and others who need to write to inspire others to be better that is all I wish for in this life - that one person reads my words and they see what we could all be :-) hugs - David :-)

This is palpable! I wish I could express the acceptance that you need through here, but sometimes even poets struggle to submit the words necessary to convey what they mean. There's something deeply wrong with false, empty pity, and the void of true empathy and love that's deserved and needed. The painful reality of bring alone in the company of another is smothering. I know that feeling too well.

You can't find the words? - You just did :-) the sheer beauty of your poetry inspires me and warms me you have such a gift:-) maybe those who are the ones alone are the ones that have to start a revolution to wake people up to what love can do :-) thank you so much :-)

Damn, David, I'm sorry you hurt so much . But you know people love you, and not out of pity, its because you're a damn cool dude. Everybody loves your dark sense of humor, and they understand and care about the deep dark aspects of your feelings.
I'd definitely give you a hug, man, and hope to hang out with you. But, hey, just so you know, I have a few vertebrae fused together with some bone harvested from one of my ribs from a few years back when I broke my back, so I probably wouldn't be able to handle a scottish bear hug. Maybe a one arm hug with a fist against the back of the shoulder kind of hug. Yeah, a brotherly manly hug. Hang in there bro, and stay cool

Man.. I really admire this piece! you were able get your message through very cleary with a sense of wit and rhymings and many descriptions! I am very new to this field but man.. this is so well....And I kind of get you in a way. English is my second language and the fact that I'm foreign to America, I can see people treating me with an attitude of a lesser being, thinking me as a inferior instead of companionship... with no respect and arrogance lost in their sense of superiority. Thankyou for the write, I can learn from this piece

I feel your pain :-( it is a lesson mankind has still to learn - to me there is only one human race, colour makes not difference, or at least it shouldn't thank you for such kind comments, clearly you understand :-)

David, the pleasure of meeting you here upon these pages puts many smiles not only on my face, but within my heart also. When I think of the times we may have missed because I did not begin to write until recently and find the site sooner makes me sad to say the least.
If I could, I would sit and bask in your glow.
Many, many wonderful thoughts headed your way, my friend.

Well said David! I think everyone should spend at least one year, or four as I did, working as a teacher's aide in a BOCES classroom, lifting children out of wheelchairs, helping them use the bathroom, changing diapers, feeding them, picking them up off the floor, teaching them, singing songs with them and doing whatever else needed o be done. You never look at people with disabilities the same way again. And now that I am disabled myself I see how many inconsiderate, uncaring idiots there are in the world.
I think my response under another poem of yours is something I'd like to apply to them...

I don't have much of any value to offer anyone, but love and hugs are my greatest currency. And you have an endless supply coming my way. Nobody wants pity. We want understanding and compassion. I used to see this expression on my dad's face when people looked at him with pity that told me each time it happened, a little piece of him died inside. Most heartbreaking thing in the world. And once in a while I would lose my temper with them as they spoke to me as though he wasn't even there, and I would tell them in no uncertain terms what I thought of their behavior and lack of respect. The greatest man I ever knew and they reduced him to a shadow. I couldn't stomach that. Sending fierce hugs your way...every day!

you've got love, hugs and inspirational poetry, respect for others, you encourage and support, you assist, you raise people up - these are the most of important things of value my friend - you are a rare one :-) I feel the same as your father, it is like a part of you dying - I even try not to make eye contact with people now - the world can be a cruel place :-( Huge massive Hugs :-)

I say look them in the eye. Shame them with their behavior and show them you're strong and beautiful, despite them. We can't be defeated by them, only by ourselves...in giving up and letting go. Keep that spirit strong and look them in the eye. You're worth it! :)

David! Life’s circumstances can be a bitch, especially when people just don’t understand what you need (love). Is it really so hard for people to have a heart? Apparently so.. caught up in their own worlds of ignorance and BLIND to the heart and soul within the man.
You are obviously loved here David, but -I know- it can be hard even still without that physical connection, that real hug. I hope you have at least one person in your life that you can squeeze when in need <3 Stay strong dear friend!! We are all here for you, without judgement, with arms wide open :) Massive hugs!

Our fur-babies can sure have a special place in our hearts :) “and the occasional slice of Ham” lol, I do believe my cat Lua has trained me well in the acquisition of all-things dairy. Her snuggle purs after a hard day are worth it! I’m so grateful for the many folks here as well, you included :)
