summer's last kiss
my sunflowers have all died
your eyes the golden orbs
that shone light on them
no longer glow here
my wildflowers
have lost their summer petals
the winter's chill felt
when you went away
you left your moon
the cold side of you
in place of the sun
i feel its bite
you can't taste
my flavor anymore
you've long since walked off the field
without a glance back
as i played carelessly
with thoughts that summer
would last forever
your warm poetry
floated across the seas
& enchanted me
your masculinity ensconsed me
gave me a home
i sang off key notes to you
& you pretended not to hear
an operatic perfomance
is what you heard instead
in me you saw rare beauty
i've faded from your sight
another is in your view
i feel her shadow
cast across my poetic horizon
i cry for my loss
& say a toast to your new love
cheers
*note it's a flower day
