Loneliness
Loneliness cuts through you like Ice,
Deeper than the coldest knife.
Standing by the frosted window,
Watching him go -
She cannot control the sobbing;
Despondent tears staining her face.
Years of happiness all over in a second,
It felt like the grim reaper had ripped her heart out.
As the light fades, so does any hope,
Left alone to cope.
Why, how, what,
What did she do or not do,
Will she ever know?
Darkness closes in around her as she sits,
Rocking in the corner, thinking this is it.
How long will this loneliness last,
A day, a month, a year, forever?
Who knows.
Deeper than the coldest knife.
Standing by the frosted window,
Watching him go -
She cannot control the sobbing;
Who knows.

I know you've requested Honest Critique, and I want to honor that; however, it's so difficult to honor that request with a write like this. 😞 I tend to want to respond emotionally, give comfort and hope.
Who hasn't experienced this pain at least once in their lives? The fabric of togetherness ripped apart to float in opposite directions. Being in both positions, I can honestly say it's more difficult to hurt another than be hurt.
Give me hurt all day and night, but please don't let me hurt others. It's difficult to see that in the midst of pain, or feel compassion beyond the heartache and tears. In case this is personal ( and if it's not it can still help one day ), let me say this; don't deny the pain. Feel it. Welcome it. Hold it. Talk to it. Make it your friend . . . and it will ease twice as fast because you've accepted it. And in acceptance lieth peace. ❤
Those who run from Pain will never outrun it; it'll be waiting ahead because it knows them better than they know themselves. It knows all the shortcuts and will use them their entire lives. Those who push Pain down will choke on it the moment they lower their defenses, and only add more to the unresolved.
So as painful as Pain is, know it doesn't kill ( albeit it feels like it ). It's one of the most powerful teachers you will ever have if you choose to learn from it.
Love whatever arises within yourself. For it too, just as you, deserves Love. 💜
Heartfelt write palpable of the painful experience of separation.

Re: Re. Loneliness
It helps to write about such pain but then it is painful to go over it. So, where do I stand on this? Am I glad it's out there? At the end of the day, from my position, you end up feeling numb about everything that has happened. Yes, I too would find it more difficult to walk away from a partnership if I were doing the running. How many chances do you give a person to stay faithful. Some would say 1 and some would say none. Neither answer is wrong. Only your heart knows how much it can accept. Thank you so much for your feedback, I am really grateful for it Ahavati. :-)

Re: Re. Loneliness
Written at a low point in my life when I was looking for answers, reaching out but there was nobody there that could really help me. I know I'm not the only one to have experienced these feelings but when it's happening to you, you do feel like the only person who is suffering. :-)

Thank you Flowergirl for your very kind comment. It was a very difficult moment in my life but I got through it as best I could. I did feel like I had stepped out of my soul and was looking at myself. Loneliness as you say, most people experience it at some point in their lives. Poetry has helped me a great deal by writing it down. Thanks again for taking the time to read my poem. Purple love and hugs. xx

Loneliness, the feeling I usually have. Purpleheart, you are not alone...... The difference is I can't express it as well as you did. Really well written!

Re. Loneliness
Thank you so much RoseJasmine for your kind comments. It took a while for me to write it down, as it did bring all the feelings, I had on that particular day flooding back. I do hope your loneliness passes, as I understand where you are coming from. Thanks again and much appreciated for adding this poem to your Reading List.

I found your poem clear in form and in its substance: The utter helplessness of the heartbroken by their own expectations of their 'significant' other. I'm sure you have, already, started moving on. Probably, writing it, helped you.
