Saved by the Belle... 1:11am

The phone hummed as his hand held the glimmering blade
Beyond the drone the call of death began to silently fade
With but a touch her voice rang out like a Siren to the Captain
Crushed against the rocks among the waves he felt trapped in
But instead her soothing tone became a homing beacon
As his desire to mate with death began to slowly weaken
Soon after he washed up on the sands of a distant beach
Her delicate had stretched out just beyond his reach
Just like in his dreams she was always too far away
So why did she come to save his life only to fade away
Was she even real or just an imaginary vision,
From somewhere deep inside to augment my own derision?
Or perhaps she hopes I will reconsider my apparent fate
And if she is real she will call again before it's finally too late
Or maybe she was just mistaken, a coincidental wrong number
And I will wake at dawn when my mind will learn to unencumber
From the weight I carry every day until I settle in an unmarked grave
Just out of reach of the love I've been denied and eternally crave
