Wanderer
(I) Strap everything I have to the back of an old nag, blind and lame,
Put my eyes on the horizon and push myself through the pouring rain.
I've been trying to live this daydream but it's all just the same
I can't seem to get it right, not sure why I even stay
And I say...
I say....
I say...
....here we go again.
Tryin' to make it all work out before it all slips away
Tonight is just another night but tomorrow will be another day
When you look at me so tensely I never know quite what to say
I'm tryin' to make it all work out, not sure why I even stay
And they say it's okay if they say it's okay
But it's okay when we say it's okay
I'm a wanderer travelling
through the centuries of desert piled up
around me and I never
meant to stay in one place for so long.
I stand here pondering
all the places that I've yet to see
as I try to forget
....what I can't even say out loud.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So put your hand in mine and walk with me
Maybe together we can set each other free
I've been wasting too much of my goddamn life
Watching as the world tries to pass me by
But I've crossed the mountains and the deep blue sea
Searching for the man that I need to be
To stand up for the things that matter to the man
That I someday hope to be.
NOTE: The final verse was used in a poem I posted fairly recently on here. It was originally written for this song but I liked the way it fit with the other poem so I used it there as well.
