[2017] The Gifted Ones

     
We're the Gifted Ones      
God's chosen Daughters and Sons      
held in high esteem above the masses      
blessed with talent spilling from our
asses      
     
Mortals stand aside---      
we'll succeed where you failed      
at every attempt you've tried      
same as those other guys      
the Roman's jailed      
nailed up and      
crucified      
     
not      
     
Think I've got it easy?      
     
NOT      
     
Brother, better think again      
     
I only got to where I am      
with a helping hand      
every now and then      
     
Yeah, I may be self taught      
ever since I caught      
the fever to write a lick of lyric      
Delirium of creativity      
serum of harmony      
bringing balance to the      
emotionally sick      
     
A little engine that could      
holed up inside my home      
telling myself, I can      
I know I can      
finish this poem      
without benefit of a master plan      
and over a decade ago      
the words began to flow      
from the wavering pen of this      
crippled man      
     
Now      
unstoppable      
     
a stream of consciousness      
routing 'round obstacle      
     
freight train engine smokin'      
laying down tracks      
through your neighborhoods
      
despite still being broken      
nothing short of Damaged Goods      
     
Not afraid to admit      
I can't do it alone      
without a helping hand      
every now and then      
     
We're the Gifted Ones      
God's chosen      
Daughters and Sons      
Short Bus Special      
given creative edges      
compensating for handicaps      
incapable of bringing ourselves      
to brave the ledges of our own      
potential      
     
Perhaps      
NOT      
blessed with talent and abilities      
NOT      
better than anyone else      
NOT      
exempt from tribulation      
JUST      
trying to be ourselves
