GRENFELL TOWER

How do I approach this with sensitivity?
The nightmare images that I see
Symptoms of austerity cuts and political games
Grenfell tower is now in flames

Evident is the social class disparity
When councillors refuse to give any clarity
To the numbers of those lost
Saving five thousand pounds now carries a greater cost

It is now time for you to admit
Covering tower blocks in cladding is not an adequate retrofit
Just aesthetically pleasing for billionaires
Regardless of safety requirements, who the fuck cares

The people care so hear our voice
Humanity verses the bottom line is an actual choice
Why are you so devoid of empathy?
While impoverished communities show complete solidarity

No faith in MPs who have no inclination
To ensure homes our homes are fit for human habitation
An amendment dismissed by 75 Tory votes
Rubbing hands together “profit” prophetically gloats

Reshaping London into have and have nots
For the rich and famous and unscrupulous despots
A new playground for those who can pay
Grenfell tower has turned the summer sky grey

The images of pain that I see
Selfishly considered I’m glad it was not me
The emotions ignited in my heart
Of families, friends and communities torn apart

I feel so fucking useless. The solidarity that has been shown amongst the Kensington community has been amazing. Words become increasingly inadequate when you have not been directly affected by the horror, but still feel sick and upset by what has happened.

I am no grief tourist, this is fucking horrendous.
