The Lost Book of Forever

The best scribblers
aside from those
universally acknowledged
as the greatest and mightiest poets
who must now all be dead
and no longer give a shit anyway
all knew when the kettle boiled dry
it was time to stop
They found little appetite
for being jealous or dismissive
of the work of others
as they were always obsessively
and utterly intent on their own words
lest they be forgot
These thus enlightened literati
preferred instead to hunt
for treasure hidden closer to home
like the half eaten packet of custard creams
nestling down the back of the sofa
with some low value out of date currency
and last year's Old Moore's Almanack
For surely there can be no sadness deeper
than watching mighty lines vanish in an instant
during the terrible pain of creation
to join The Lost Book of Forever
like stillborn tears
drowning upon the cheeks of a fool
to be so brilliantly
never read
