Words when needed

It truly is surprising
the friends and allies you can find
or nice and supportive words that happen
when you least expect it.
They are the voices in the void
or lights in the darkness
or dark sunglasses against insecurities glare.
For me, they are beyond value
and I can never repay them
or do them justice in reply,
as more often than not
they catch me off guard
bursting through my bravado and ego
to touch the tenderness tucked behind,
so that I falter and fumble
in my once semi-suave and semi-competence
hit by the single snowflake
that stops the train of thought
derailing with the gentlest action.
Perhaps they are the echoes of karma
and no good deeds goes unrewarded
or more likely
the helping hand
when idly looking into the abyss.
Kind words go a long way
to make a good day.
