This is heartbreaking, Gahdess.  A child is impressionable, and such cruel, careless disregard from a parent can leave scars.  I think you've picked up the pieces very well and have become a  talented and insightful poet.  Excellent work!

Thank you Sir Crow. It may seem a trivial event but you are tight on point. Just the fact that I still remember the sting makes it a significant event in my progression. I was never beaten, thank God for that, but sometimes passive disdain can be just as callous and humiliating. I try my hardest to not repeat the behavior as a father.

Excellent write Gahddess  ... words can hurt more than getting a slap. The sting tends to hang on much longer.

This is a truth so many youth face because of an accident. It breaks my heart to see parents or guardians with no patience for mistakes.

Thank you Ahavati. You know I doubt  my dad meant harm. I think that it stems from a purely analytical mind that doesn't fathom simple mistakes. I am reminded of the song from "Into the Woods." "Careful the things you say children will listen...'

Indeed as expressed-Impressionable we are as kids, they are more attune to subtleties -especially those of the parent-We want nothing but praise from their eyes.
