Step away from the lightness and into
The darkness. The dark shadows
Will come out to meet and pull you

In like the thorns around the rose.

Low to the roots. It always knows

You like an old friend. It sees every sin
You try to keep covered and hidden from
View. The darkness will never let you win.

It will always find a way to worm
Itself into your bloodstream and pump
Everything cold. Do not let it numb

You and worthless like trees stump.
It always looks right into your
Vulnerability like the big lump

In your throat and like the sore
On your knee from the nasty fall.
It tries to use your tears that tore

You apart, but maybe the wall
Of darkness does not know you as
well because you are still standing tall.
