Under My Skin
i want to forget
the scent
of your body
i want to forget
the taste
of your lips
i want to erase
the ink you traced
on my fragile
frame
but you’re
under my skin
you’re my deception
my dangerous distraction
my insane satisfaction
my fatal attraction
i want to forget
that we’ve
ever met
but you’re
under my skin
you’re my memory
and the words i bleed
you’re the drug that works
and the truth that hurts
the scent
of your body
i want to forget
the taste
of your lips
i want to erase
the ink you traced
on my fragile
frame
but you’re
under my skin
you’re my deception
my dangerous distraction
my insane satisfaction
my fatal attraction
i want to forget
that we’ve
ever met
but you’re
under my skin
you’re my memory
and the words i bleed
you’re the drug that works
and the truth that hurts

You use your small collection of words very powerfully here. You did not need anything more to convey what you're saying. The ache appears in ink upon the page. Beautifully written, little sister :)

I worked on this piece for a long time... constantly thinking it needs more, it's not finished, but at one point I thought: it's enough!

one of your best to date Duende! you've captured with such apparent ease the intangible entity, the essence of Love! I like this one for it's clear delivery, it is indeed one of the most amazing pieces I've seen here. Congratulations on an awesome job.

Simple, but beautiful. I can relate. Kinda. I'd like to forget, but, on the other hand, I've made such beautiful memories. It's quite the conundrum.

So many good lines in this piece but the one that did it for me was: "The truth that hurts." Wow that line says so much without saying much. Really enjoyed the flow & the way this read engaged me.

Beautifully done, Duende! Been there, done that, got the t-shirt to prove it! Although I did manage to peel back my skin and remove what rested beneath. Sometimes it's hard to remove something that was once beautiful to you...

Ah yes, a unworkable relationship yet he does to you that which thrills you.
He pushes the button no one else has found
unleashes a flood of endorphins
as he throws you to the ground
you lay there picking out the gravel
as you watch him walk away
knowing you'll knock on his door
to be thrilled and dist another day

This poem reminds me of a quote by Henry Miller, one of my faves. Just thought I would share it with you:
"Well, I'll take these pages and move on. Things are happening elsewhere. Things are always happening. It seems wherever I go there is drama. People are like lice - they get under your skin and bury themselves there. You scratch and scratch until the blood comes, but you can't get permanently deloused. Everywhere I go people are making a mess of their lives. Everyone has his private tragedy. It's in the blood now - misfortune, ennui, grief, suicide. The atmosphere is saturated with disaster, frustration, futility. Scratch and scratch, until there's no skin left. However, the effect upon me is exhilarating. Instead of being discouraged or depressed, I enjoy it. I am crying for more and more disasters, for bigger calamities, grander failures. I want the whole world to be out of whack, I want every one to scratch himself to death."
Lovely read. Thank you.

Re. Under My Skin
It's a terrible thing to be haunted by a kiss, the feel of their lips, the shape of their body moulded in our arms, the weight imprinted into our core... every new kiss, every embrace, everybody that follows feels inferior and awkward to begin... great poem, Duende... I could feel it.

That you could feel my words is the greatest compliment you can give me!
It is indeed a terrible feeling, one you described to a tee! During the offs (it was an on and off situation) there were others... only a few, but enough to realize it's not for me. Since the chapter is closed for good, there hasn't been another (I came out pretty shattered)

I think many of us have that someone we'd like to forget, at least for a while. There's nothing quite like that feeling of having someone under your skin, the way it makes it feel too tight on your frame.
This made me think of a different song than the one you've linked to: Heather Nova, Blood of Me — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4Rq8wbHjI4

There is indeed nothing like that feeling... it's torture (at least, to me) to have someone on your mind day and night, knowing it's over... the "fear" of never finding another love like that...
