ebb and flow
there is no such thing
as absolute freedom
be it of speech or any other
as long as there exists
any such entity
called constitution
there will always be restrictions
of some type or another
to exist as a human society
we must come to terms
with the relative freedoms
we have, we can have or
the ones we have to let go
ain't no such thing as
social justice warriors
advocates may be
but warriors would mean
people who are ready to slay
which would be an oxymoron.
Disagreement and dissent
are better dealt in discussion room
rather than percieved battlefields like public buses, trains or gatherings.
Conflict is intrinsic part of human nature whether we acknowledge it or not
be it in the name of religion, race, class, political ideology, tribe, land,
cattle or even a language
So called rights
they come, they go
it's just human evolution's
ebb and flow...

I really like this, such a powerful and clever little write!
Definitely thought provoking I think some of us already feel this way but to put it into words and gain perspective rather than cluttered thoughts is another! Genius!

You have a gift for articulating thoughts that percolate in the back of my mind but never reach the surface. Very strong write. :)

I love reading the depths of your thoughts. They are one to challenge, and intrigue.

So called rights
they come, they go
it's just human evolution's
ebb and flow...
The final stanza holds so much depth and anchors the verse perfectly. In contemplating it (in relation to the poem) I find the truth astute by observation. If we truly think about it, human rights (and the rights thereof to have them) are dictated by the powers-that-be. From slavery to millionaire, there seems to be two levels that define such rights in their own perception.
Well done, Birdman. Thanks for making me think.

Welcome dear Ahavati, my gracious friend!
glad the scribble provoked some thought. This whole read was actually my answer to a 2 part question in our speak-easy forum from one of our friends here. Had saved it as draft that day as the answer made myself think hard over it. Glad it had similar effect on my esteemed peers here. I am sure there are many who'd not share the view and am all too happy for that.
I thank you sincerely for your generous appreciation and time over my scribble. Indeed the enities that are freedom and rights, have fascinated me since childhood. Many an occassions we like to think we have freedom until confronted by events/reality that make us re-evaluate our preception.
My octagenarian manager, a very wise fella, a war vet often says " Perception is reality" and that often sends me into introspection..including about the topic above..
I once again cannot state my appreciation for your appreciation my sage friend.
Thank You

thought provoking indeed - I disagree however and would dare to suggest absolute freedom in text and spoken word - anything else is in control by the man, whoever the current man happens to be. fluctuating rights are not rights at all :-)
still a terrific and well written poem my friend

Welcome my dear Friend Dave!!
I welcome with same enthusiasm your disagreement and views. I'd like to think I agree with your response re- freedom in text and spoken word but am confronted my my experiences in real life. In my 'view', the freedom you've stated is a relative one as it depends, on the physical location on this planet of both your's and your view's.
well yes, fluctuating rights..in a way they aren't but in other ways they are, relatively speaking.
saying your presence and sharing of your thought provoking views made my day would be an understatement. Thank You Dave!
warm regards

Humanity has a tendency to favor constants and absolutes while navigating the tower, however the usefulness is questionable in the fields. One of my favorite Santana albums is Caravanserai. Doesn't have the hit songs but totally makes me think of this poem.
