What's Right

There's so many distractions
In this world
So I won't waste time,
I'll get straight to the point
We Live in a country
Where you get locked up for a joint
Two states away & you can buy one at a dispensary
That shit doesn't make sense to me
Locked up in prison for a sack of weed
Then the guards hold you down
Until you can't breathe
Dead on their watch and the media manipulates
Non violent offender but just look at her race
African American- up to no good
Had it coming since the day she left the hood
Don't you see what this means?
Government is keeping people in poverty
With no means to survive
Planting drugs in the streets
Then poppin them for trying
To get their family out of the ghetto..
Now I may be part Latino but my skin is pretty light
I grew up white privileged
But I don't turn a blind eye
To the shit that's going on
People getting shot for looking
At cops wrong
Judges getting paid off
Sending people to prison
So the corporations profit
Off of our imprisonment
Mass incarceration
In the land of the free
Where you get locked
Up in a cage for growing a
Certain tree.
I don't know about you
But that doesn't sit well with me
And this ain't even about weed.
It goes so much deeper
Corporate greed has
Turned institutional racism
Into a means for making money
While thousands are starving &
going to sleep hungry
It's easier to look away & pretend it's all right
But sometimes what's easy isn't always what's right.

Now don't get me wrong
I'm grateful to live here
I've got so many opportunities
That others don't have
And I'm honestly really glad
That I get the opportunity to
use that 1st amendment right
To fight for justice in this corrupt mess
I can no longer wait for someone else to do it
My heart can't take another unjust ruling
The system is corrupt so it's time to rise up
It's easier to look away & pretend it's all right
But sometimes what's easy isn't always what's right.
Sometimes you stand up to fight that good fight
Cuz it's our brothers & sisters in the streets gettin killed
& the corporate tax breaks that
get wall streets pockets filled
Pay their way out of prison
Judges make their decision
Based off wealth & status
White, black or Hispanic
Its tragic the way things have gotten out of hand
But I gotta keep my head up
It's all a part of the plan
I won't sit back & fall silent
But I pray each day
That we stop resorting to violence
I give thanks for this life
Cuz We are all pure at heart
& Some of us are misguided
But we are here to show the world
That We are weak when we're divided
Stronger together
Working as a family
For one common goal
Justice, liberation, equality
For all ~~~
