Night Prayers
Again tonight, like a child,
I lie early beside my wife
Muttering prayer lines
Of innocence.
Not that I am unaware
Of the wild wild things
That happen at night
I just don't want
Any of them again.

Of protection
"Lord, let us sleep
Like littles babes and
Wake up in our arms..."

I relate to this, the incantations against bad or wanton conducts, done but not relished. The silence in the night brings so much memories flooding back...a good read.
