Mather
Mather hears hysteria
The collective madness of young girls
Eye-rolling, frothing at the mouth
Accusations flying to the village's far corners
Allegations of witchcraft not far behind
They projectile-vomit impressively
The name "Pazuzu" playing on their lips
And Mather is perplexed
Authorizing construction of the gallows
Taking a final stand against Lucifer
Ignorant of his approaching flames.

When I first read the title I thought it's either Cotton or Jerry (although I guess that's Mathers). I love this piece because reminds what a travesty of justice it represents. Bravo Don Crow!

As well! Felt like the Twilight Zone episode "The Monsters are due on Maple Street" in those two lines. Good righteous write and I love how it goes from social experience wisdom to visceral on a whim.

I was recently in Salem. Mathers was quite the shrewd and ignorant one. I still cant get passed how the adults were all fooled by children enough to kill each other. Needless to say, your perspective of Mathers reflects well in this poem. Nice write Crow.

A great take on a dark period
when ignorance and blind faith
combined for a horrific end for many people...
Write on Crow , Write on...
Cheers, Scot.
