Catharsis
I lie there, beaten and broken
Shattered shell of former self
How is it I came to be here?
I cry and ask of myself
Sticks and stones may break me
so can the weight of your words
I bear the marks to prove it
Yet, you mock and say, "That's absurd!"
Something calls from within me,
Amid the darkness something stirs
A voice, sounding familiar,
Been a while since I had heard
You casted me into shadow,
As if I'd simply remain
But time has come, get off your ass,
This ground I now reclaim
I rise, ever so steadily
My foundation now restored
Here stands a woman of worth,
Who'll no longer be ignored
Stepping free of chains that bind me
The very shroud of your disdain
Shaking free of all your bullshit
And no longer feeling pain
It is in this very moment,
I regain new sense of self
And without any hesitation,
I leave the mirror to itself
Shattered shell of former self
How is it I came to be here?
I cry and ask of myself
Sticks and stones may break me
so can the weight of your words
I bear the marks to prove it
Yet, you mock and say, "That's absurd!"
Something calls from within me,
Amid the darkness something stirs
A voice, sounding familiar,
Been a while since I had heard
You casted me into shadow,
As if I'd simply remain
But time has come, get off your ass,
This ground I now reclaim
I rise, ever so steadily
My foundation now restored
Here stands a woman of worth,
Who'll no longer be ignored
Stepping free of chains that bind me
The very shroud of your disdain
Shaking free of all your bullshit
And no longer feeling pain
It is in this very moment,
I regain new sense of self
And without any hesitation,
I leave the mirror to itself
