"Lincoln" the Movie - How Director Speilberg Could Have Done Better (But Was Too Timid?)
Steven Spielberg did a good job in directing that movie,
but I think he missed out on a golden opportunity.
I mean he left out the very special event
that happened when Lincoln was touring inspecting
or visiting Richmond after it had fallen to the Union forces.
When the Blacks heard that Lincoln was there in their midst,
they all drop what they are doing and ran to meet him bowing down,
or kneeling before him, encircling him, treating him like the Christ-figure he was.
He then pleaded and begged, and then ordered and commanded them to stop
and to "Get up, get up !! You mustn't do that!! Get up, get up, right this minute!!"
What a scene it must have been !! The President totally embarrassed
by the adulation that it was only natural for them to feel for him.
What else could they do? Of course they bowed down, etc.
Anyway, Spielberg could have managed to include it -
just like he put into "Schindler's List," that special scene
where the Jewish children inside the concentration camp
have just been loaded into a truck or was it a bus?
And then the mothers find out and are chasing after the bus
screaming for their children. What a scene !!!
I suppose the scene where Lincoln gets "mobbed"(?) was just
too racially charged or sensitive - so likely to offend Blacks today.
Maybe Blacks watching the movie would get incensed over Black slaves,
newly liberated/freed Black slaves grovelling so whole-heartedly.
"Worshipping" a white man - what do you think?

Lincoln was acting in the same spirit as Paul and Barnabas at Lystra (Book of Acts) when they reproved the local citizens for offering sacrifices to them in the misapprehension they were two of the classical gods.

Yes, that is a good parallel.Plus there's the parallel of the same mob turning against Paul and Barnabas. They stoned Paul to death. (Why not Barnabas?) But the believers prayed over Paul and he revived, probably a divine intervention(Acts 14.18-20).
The mob wanted to worship them,but then the mob kills (one of) them.That parallels the attitude of Blacks today. I mean, simply, that they used to be ALL Republicans. but now they are almost all Democrats. A total reversal!! Actually the GOP has itself to blame.For they basically abandoned the Blacks, if I'm not mistaken. For example, the Supreme Court decision upholding "separate but equal" (Plessy) in 1898 or thereabouts, I think the Republicans on the Court upheld it even though it was their golden opportunity to strike it down, thus bravely supporting equal rights for Blacks.
