The River
Peace is almost
A victory you might keep
It's strewn together on lilac knives
That lay so intimate
Conflicted sounds
A stop sign of crack ceilings
Incisions that pick locks
Lately it might be
All the worry
Never could hold still
Like another dam overflowing
Twirl with twine
It's crowded from seams
A river found while in slipstream
That chills the bone
Drag the coal below
It's flushed with a thousand lives
Each one you helped make
But never scraped
Recall it quick
The fingers didn't make
Bending brackets of past mistakes
A victory you might keep
It's strewn together on lilac knives
That lay so intimate
Conflicted sounds
A stop sign of crack ceilings
Incisions that pick locks
Lately it might be
All the worry
Never could hold still
Like another dam overflowing
Twirl with twine
It's crowded from seams
A river found while in slipstream
That chills the bone
Drag the coal below
It's flushed with a thousand lives
Each one you helped make
But never scraped
Recall it quick
The fingers didn't make
Bending brackets of past mistakes
