Reconstruction: A Backstory
They declared war on poverty
Turning the poor into the enemy
Claiming the hero is corporate greed
While veterans sleep in the street
They declared war on intoxication
Sending out soldiers to clean up the nation
Accepting the delusional hallucination
That prison can fix an addiction
They declared war on terrorism
With military industrial capitalism
Carpet bombing us with nationalism
To keep war criminals out of prison
They use war as a distraction
To avoid taking any real action
Attacking scapegoats as the solution
To pass the blame on for all the pollution
And the refugees watch, unsure how to react,
As the villains get away, slipping through the cracks.
They wait patiently for leaders to attack
Instead of accepting large bags full of cash
We need to finally declare war on war;
Focus our actions where the problems are
And use our resources for what they are for
And rebuild what they’ve made war-torn
This time let’s put the refugees in charge.
