An Ancient Song

- An Ancient Song -

As I was watching the east, the autumn sky,
I did behold the colors of the late afternoon.
The sun’s golden hue: where hawks oft fly…
Until the coming of the night, and the moon!
So fleeting is that span of time, ere the dark,
When fireflies, like fairies, flit to silent music.
You can hear it, if you listen well, and hark…
An ancient song: greater than a noble classic.

No mortal hand could compose such sound.
And not one voice, could lend to it a beauty,
Enough to do it justice where muses abound!
Listen well, to the grandest divine symphony.
Every star had its’ origin in it, made to blaze,
By no architect knowable to the mind of man.
They will burn eternal, unto the end of days!
When the cycle turns anew: time’s soft sand.

In each heart, a spark of that divine grandeur,
Fashioned like starlight, burning like embers…
Waits to be found, by a pure-hearted seeker!
All we need do is to reflect and to remember.
So falls the night, and the crickets sing a tune,
With beauty all its’ own, ere dawn rises soon.
