Freak Show

grating voices trying hard
to be heard above the crowds
making faces to evoke laughter
so much fun for the clowns

bright encouraging words through dull prism
trying to crash into monotonous minds
that just want to survive till tomorrow
living on a handful of rice

the voices keep on
casting nets for affirmations
not setting any boundaries
just fingers that write an X

they turn a blind eye
to those dying on boats
on choppy seas
get a life people do drown

scrambling and aiming for rocking chairs
and the invisible crown
they tumble over each other
making the Imperium
a stage for a freak show.
