No Silver Lining

There would be no rich folk and nobody to call poor
And no food to buy without a grocery store
There'd be no wars if no one could afford to manufacture guns
And no oil in the furnace to warm your freezing buns
There would be no landlords to become greedy assholes
And perhaps there'd be no countries to construct proud flagpoles
No churches would rise up to collect "donations" for the lord
From common peasants who have none they can afford
There might not be a warming trend to make the oceans rise
Then we wouldn't have to listen as the deniers tell their lies
And if there was no currency anywhere of any kind
Nobody would own a thing, you could just have whatever you may find
I'd even be willing to bet there'd be no more divorce
But then there'd be nothing to bet, 'cept for your word, or course
And without pay no lawyer is gonna plead your adultery case
So I guess I'd have to learn to be happy just to see your smiling face
