Requiem
There are moments of clarity
But they pass so quickly…
I am brittle bone and aching flesh
And I know too well
That your demons are stronger than me.
They
Make me run
For the darkest corner
I can find
And sometimes
There are no corners.
I dreamt you were dying.
I found you on your bed
Lying with your eyes wide open
Red rimmed fear
Terrorized blue
Peering into a gutted
Eternity.
I held you fierce
When you took your last breath
But you were already gone
Dissolved by fear and isolation….
Just you
And those hulking demons
Safeguarding your imminent release.
I don’t know,
Even now,
If that dream was
A longing for your freedom
Or a longing for mine.
But they pass so quickly…
I am brittle bone and aching flesh
And I know too well
That your demons are stronger than me.
They
Make me run
For the darkest corner
I can find
And sometimes
There are no corners.
I dreamt you were dying.
I found you on your bed
Lying with your eyes wide open
Red rimmed fear
Terrorized blue
Peering into a gutted
Eternity.
I held you fierce
When you took your last breath
But you were already gone
Dissolved by fear and isolation….
Just you
And those hulking demons
Safeguarding your imminent release.
I don’t know,
Even now,
If that dream was
A longing for your freedom
Or a longing for mine.
