i dont get it dark bee. why did the fox jump. fox's are normally smart what happened to him.what was the last thing that went through his head(other than his arse) 520 days in the making and there is so many questions surrounding the death of your fox.
I think maybe you're taking the poem at face value too much. Dig a little deeper. Don't start with any assumptions. (update) And always start by reading the title (not wishing to sound condescending). Anymore than that and I think it'll just give the game away.

"fin" opens up a whole other set of endings for whomever delves into the story of your fox.while splat was fairly finite in that it was a fair assumption that the fox was feeding the crows, fin recognizes that just six words can tell a big story.

I'm grateful for your comments Eamon. I think, I'm inclined to agree with your sentiment. I did feel that "splat" was a little limiting in terms of interpretation, and dare I say it, even a little childish.
The words of the poem are borrowed in a manner of speaking. :)
