T-Town

bus stopped in T-Town
I needed coffee. a hot meal
crossed the road to the diner
cute waitress. real cute
polished prettyness, like an angel
I figured a devil lurked inside

her nametag said Kitten
tattoos. fairies & gardens
butterflys. beckoned me to stroll
linger. ease my weariness, maybe

she asked what’s my pleasure
I grinned my moody grin
my pleasure’s not on the menu
she smiled, sorta
better start with coffee, stranger
eggs & hash browns are on special

she brought coffee & touched my hand
I warned her. be careful, Kitten
you’ll get your pretty fur tangled
she flashed her killer eyes
I’m not afraid of you, mister
we talked a little
we talked a lot

her road had been tough
bumps & ruts
littered with tears, broken hearts
snakebit dreams
men who held her. then walked away

the bus pulled out
she warmed my coffee
touched my hand again
smiled her Kitten smile

all of a sudden we’re lovers…
