anarchism
We are the collective victims
of our own society
freedom is an illusion
and even if I could take back
what's been taken from me
I'm not sure I'd know how to live
in a world without chains
I feel like a rebel without a cause
a non-conformist in a world
full of people who want me
to conform to their own misery
because they too aren't free
and trying to get by
the only way they know how:
submissively
and I'm tired
of being tied down and told
to live in a world
that doesn't work for me
Freedom fighters are called that
for a reason
if only I could work up
the courage to fight

Would you hate it if I said I can completely conform to this feeling? Whether or not I'm allowed into this club, I'll still sings it fine praises: hits the spot exactly.

Thank you Viddax :) and I don't hate you to conforming to the feeling. I think it's an all too common occurrence that people don't know how to change.

Change? Forgive me, but that is strange words from a rebel without a cause. And who is to say that the feeling requires change.

Lol, change is something different. For the discontent change isn't necessarily a bad thing, unless the changes lead to more discontentment. Smash the system? I wouldn't know where to start. All I have are words and well they say the pen is mightier than the sword, if only I could find the right words to smash the system or ay least make a dent in it.

Can't change the channel if you don't know how to operate the remote! If you don't know where to smash, might I ask for your attention over here where it is a case of bending and warping the system. After all if it aint broke don't fix it and if it is broke do fix it!
Sounds a lot like a rebel without even a cause to have heart for, if you only have words. Though that's not an insult, its a lot like me. Okay, I suppose in that case it is an insult, sorry.

No worries Viddax. Your last comment made me laugh. Perhaps we are just useless revels. Perhaps not. :)

So long as greed and the desire for power exists, anarchism cannot work. The Need to control others is as much a human obsession as the desire to have more than everyone else. Without laws and someone to enforce them, power mongers would either control you or kill you. Greedy people would take away your food, your shelter and whatever else you have that they desire. If you don't give it to them they will kill you and have it after they dispose of you. It happens now, but we have laws against it and enforcers to protect the rest of us. Anarchism only works for the animals because they know enough not to take more than they need to survive and they are immune to human desires. So yes, you must conform to the laws the majority have agreed upon. This is why anarchy is associated with war, because in any human society, war is where lawlessness leads. I think it would be awesome if we could live in a society that did not need laws or government, but I know humans are not capable of letting go of greed and the need for power. JJ

Anarchism isn't about lawlessness or lack of rules. In some ways it's similar to democracy, only everyone gets a choice, especially those the current system chooses to forget. I don't know how anarchism would would in a real sense, or if it's just a pipe dream, but it resonates with me.
As for violence, in some places people have to fight for their freedom over the ruling class because the ruling class is corrupt. And I can't blame people for fighting for that freedom, even if the means don't always justify the ends. (And yes I know how horrible that sounds).

Here is a good link on the rules for a non violent society, re: the anarchist library. Worth a read.

Define anarchism: a belief that government and laws are not necessary.
Because of human nature, government and laws are absolutely necessary. If there are no laws it is ok for people to kill each other. Because people are greedy, if they want what you have, they can legally kill you to take what you worked hard to earn the money o buy, be it your car, your food, clothes or your home. I don't know what your definition of anarchism is, but if it is something other than a society without government or laws, you will need to tell the rest of the world because it has held that definition for a very long time. I think some people have created their own Utopian variation of what they want anarchism to be, but that's not what it is. People disagree all the time, we are disagreeing right now, if there were no laws or government to enforce them, we could kill each other because we don't like each others opinions. I like my freedom of speech and I would not deny yours. So if we are to voice our opposing opinions peacefully, we need to have rules that make us free to do so.
There are people here in America who have committed murder at abortion clinics because they want to stop doctors from performing them, so we need laws that protect that right and imprison murderers.
If there was no law against rape, any guy could rape any woman or as many women as he wanted to. The laws would be useless without a justice system to punish those who deny you the right to say no. Everything you have, including your body and your life, are protected by laws and government. Without them there would be chaos.

re: re: Re: anarchism
I've done a lot of reading, and I know what the misconceptions about anarchism are, and how it's portrayed in the media. Sure to some it means senseless violence. People who murder others at abortion clinics because their views differ aren't anarchists, they're social oppressors. The true essence of anarchism is about freedom. That doesn't mean the freedom to murder or rape based on religious or political beliefs, which is what many governments currently do.
For some people anarchism means things like freeganism and hippy communes, living peacefully outside of the state.
Capitalism doesn't work. I agree there needs to be rules in any society, but the laws we have now hurt more people than they help. Take Australia for example, the LGBT community are denied the right to have their relationships recognised. One of the few countries in the Western world left to do so. Our lock-out policy against refugees literally kills people. I didn't vote for the idiot running this country and many of the people who did, didn't vote for the laws he's been passing. It makes me ashamed to be an Australian.
In England they're passing an anti-terror law that will deny people their freedom of speech. Everything posted on social media will have to be vetoed by the police.
In America, the police take the law into their own hands. Innocent people die because of trigger happy idiots who claim to be following procedure. How is that right or even legal? If the news is any kind of indicator, they're getting away with it too.
In a libertarian/socialist/anarchistic world everyone no matter how insignificant in the eyes of the current governments has a say.
From what I read, and what I see, and what I've experienced, the current model of running things doesn't care two figs for the little people, like the homeless or the mentally ill, or those living below the poverty line.
I can see where you're coming from. A lot of people agree with the current system because it works for them. And in some ways the current system works for me, but it doesn't mean I agree with it, or am happy to live in a world where the atrocities of our countries become so common place people don't stop to think about how wrong they are.
I'm not saying anarchism is the answer, I don't have all the answers, but I can see the appeal of anarchism. Like most things in life though, the next revolution of change is probably just a pipe dream. I don't have that much faith in society as a whole to believe we can successfully pull off a revolution to a better world. Especially a revolution without violence.
My poem is more an airing of my current feelings of discontentment, and a search for answers. Freedom of speech in action. And I'm grateful to currently live in a country where I can do so without persecution, but if England is any kind of example to go on, our governments could soon have us giving up our freedom for security. And I don't agree with that at all.

We can gain freedom in unity, if every nation ignore the difference in pigments the difference in regions and religions and see their on reflection in the eyes of all man then maby as a planet we can rise above the ego and nature. That's a nice dream to have
