fracture

You push me like a fracture
bending to break
I’m not as impenetrable
as you want me to be
slipping cotton wool into
my eye sockets
in the hope that the fibres
will teach me how to dream
the dreams of the unbroken

I’ve learnt how to walk alone
but not how to stand still
sit still, breathe this exact moment
I’m always somewhere else
always wanting to be somewhere else
while I envy your still life fantasies
that I’ve never been able
to pin down

I break in ways you can see
and a million ways that you can’t
I’m sleep deprived but we’re watching
this movie marathon anyway
the skin around my eyes cracking
to pull my face apart
as you hang yourself around my shoulders
and tell me just five minutes more
whispering false prophecies in my ear
that I want to believe
as my skin parts from my flesh
and leaves me a Dadaist art piece
on the floor
