Yakuza
The yakuza peels off his shirt
His skin ripples, activating tattoos
Impossible colors
Dreams and nightmares
Dragons uncurl and preen
They disconnect from skin's gravity
Lifting off in triumph
Circling an enemy's head
A foe fatally flawed
No noticing the katana
This blade the yakuza leisurely unsheathes
The edge whistling towards a major artery.
His skin ripples, activating tattoos
Impossible colors
Dreams and nightmares
Dragons uncurl and preen
They disconnect from skin's gravity
Lifting off in triumph
Circling an enemy's head
A foe fatally flawed
No noticing the katana
This blade the yakuza leisurely unsheathes
The edge whistling towards a major artery.

there's something so heady about these words, crowfly. the imagery of tattoos & impending violence feel as light & intoxicating as opium vapours...
... it's a keeper, absolutely loved!

Thanks Katja. I'm not completely sure a Japanese gangster or yakuza would be carrying a katana or samurai sword, but what the hell. Poetic license? That's a beautifully worded comment by the way.

Yes, they are vicious. The yakuza and the triads make groups like the mafia and assorted street gangs look like boy scouts.

Thanks Lookie. This is particularly true of the tattoos, which can become many and subject to interpretation in the eye of the beholder. I've got one myself, just an innocent bystander on my right shoulder.

Thanks Minerva. Blades can whistle as well as sing, depending on the occasion.

This creates such an action packed scene, almost instantly. Well written, such vivid descriptions and scenario development.

Thanks Sammy. I love Japanese movies and other sources of information dealing with the samurai and yakuza. I saw a samurai flick last night called "Unforgiven," a remake of the Clint Eastwood movie, that I think surpasses the original. It's available on Youtube if you're interested.

Yes, artwork. I've tried supplying art a few times but the pictures didn't take, probably because I couldn't figure it out. Thanks for the reminder, Survi. I'll work on this and see what I can come up with.

I love the intense discriptions putting the reader right there in the scene. Excellent work my friend!

Thanks Grace. I'd love to pick up a katana. The real ones are hard to come by and are razor sharp. The one's available are just for show, and tend to be dull. Not much for home security.

Yes, it's kind of a flashback. Way back when I took more than my share of lysergic acid. Just goes to show... Thanks Bayoukid.

You have some skill with a blade. Giving so much free license to the reader, this really comes alive in the imagination.

Thanks Johnny. I've never studied kendo. That could really make this come alive. So far I'm just an observer.

Thanks Flower. Your visuals are a lot softer, which I appreciate. A gentle touch rather than a hard edge.
