At a deathbed
dim eyes focused
on nothingness
behind the curtain
the musicians
wailed as an orchestra
discordant noises
faint smiles
lingering dances
he saw them
sway
his hands moved
to synchronise the music
he danced away
with them
closed his eyes
and left.

I hope he danced away with angels. The title's grim, but there's still some hope. Faith springs eternal.

I hope so too. Death is so grim. I have seen some while taking care of my mom in one. She passed too but she was peaceful.

If I must go, then let this be the way. You simply appeal to the artist in me....

I just watched a 60 Minutes piece on MET conductor James Levine, and your poem reminds me of it so much ... His crippling illness and how he is transported through the music ...
