The Guilty Grey

The rain falls
The flowers drip yellow
My hair drips brown
She loses her fiery colour
Within her hair
All colours enter the gutter
All colour slithers across the drenched cement
And I stare at her
Through grey hair
Sagging down my face
She knows the question
As do I
But the answer lies in front of me
The guilty grey
Finally the colour is clear
That drips from my hands
There is now nothing left
And I pant
The fire inside me
Keeping warmth
And sanity
My breath crawls across the air
And splashes across her face slowly
“Why” I ask.
And she has no words
As if they were lost in the rain
As if they slinked away with all her colour
She walks over to me
And leans to my ear
And she whispers with warm breath
Then she gives me a peck on the cheek
And turns
A fleshy pink hand grabs her shoulder
And my brown eyes fill with healing
“Wait” I say
