awkward...
wishing very much to impress her,
but feeling a little uncertain
as he stared at the menu, he sought
the waiter's recommendation
and yet the waiter replied that with regret
he was unable to give an opinion,
"since with all due respect, sir,
I do not know you..."

A waiter with telepathy would be weird, Paul. You'd think they'd seek a higher paying job with such a skill. To each their own, I s'pose. The world needs good waiters. But a waiter that could read my mind might just kill my appetite. It takes a certain type of skill to thrive on awkwardness. You tell these great little stories with a bare minimum of words.

I think perhaps the waiter
had studied human nature
and found it wanting...
thanks, B..:)

Having been a bartender for a bit I've been hit by the very same question ... It's quite telling about the person even more so because bartenders don't work by the same script (menu) in the way a chef (via the waiter) does ...
Great insightful piece

The waiter at least should have a decent tip, to insure promptness of any after dinner return. :)

Your gravy charm will get you by, but I didn't write that comment very well, perhaps. He should have gave an opinion and put in his good two pence. awkward. Take the plate, leave the gravy. :)
