Gargoyles
Cellphones plastered to their ears
Laptops flipped open at Starbucks
IPODs packed with rap 'n' roll
Minds melting into the latest toys
Above, forgotten stone sculpture
Bodies of lions, gryphon wings
Heads of demons
Eyes of flame and urban damnation
Peering down on the prey below.

I'm taking this as we are so caught up in the technological present that our past can come crashing down on us any minute.

That's a really good interpretation, CasketSharpe. That's one intent on my part. I'm also just really fond of gargoyles and other sculpture perched on top of various buildings, unnoticed by those below. We've got our heads so far up current technology that forget to look up.

Many stone sculptures remain unchanging, but our technology is always changing.

And change is good, technological or otherwise. But the fluidity and speed of technological change is overwhelming to me. I take a lot of comfort in looking up and seeing those demons in all their gothic splendor. I consider them friends, in a weird way.

Its good to find comfort in what we like as long as it doesn't consume us. With your like of the Gothic I wonder, Do you play D&D?

The gargoyles aren't inclined to consume me, at least not yet. I love gothic literature and movies. One of my favorite films is the 1960 Italian horror production "Black Sunday." This has beautiful gothic atmosphere photographed in black and white. For literature I like Matthew Lewis' "The Monk," Sheridan Le Fanu's "Carmilla" and, of course, "Dracula." I've never played D&D. although I wouldn't mind trying.
My gothic appreciation could be summed up maybe too concisely in the Smithereen's line "I close my eyes and I see blood and roses." Darkness, romance and maybe a little menace.

I'd give it a go. It's been years since I've played any games like this. I'm sure it'd be fun.

Crowfly you can't go anywhere anymore without seeing people glued to technology not knowing it's tracking and cataloging there every movement.. great ink with respect Crim

I saw the frozen tech-heads as counterparts, wrought to stone like the winged guardians above. Dichotomy between ancient relics and shiny tech is part of what makes the Marvel and DC Universe come alive, which then bleeds back, such that all city scenes become cooler to see.

Yesss... Wonderful contrast between your subjects. So dark and menacing, the hidden monsters that watch us from afar. This is my very favorite of yours so far. Masterful piece!
