Friendship, Love and Liberty

These words result from brain not heart
But words from hearts aren't always best
Or wise, and I do have a heart
And these words are my sincerest.

I'm aware it may appear bad
That I've written these words when you've
Just told me the troubles you've had
And when your parting's not been proved.

But I've cared since our second year.
Please see, there's been a dilemma
And I've done this because I fear,
If not now, then perhaps never.

Whom we don't love should we be with?
If we don't know how can we love?
How can we know if we're not with?
How can we be with, known and loved?

We need not love to be with her,
Where love's mere icing, not the cake.
But whom we're with we should treasure,
And always give back what we take.

Those unknown can be loved, maybe,
And what makes love more clear perceived,
Makes those unknown love more dearly.
Whom we love, we should love indeed.

But can we know without being with?
It's a possibility bare
That we could know of what gets missed
When we're not with, if we're not there.

Flowers are lovely; love is flower-like;
Friendship is a sheltering tree.
What joys might come down shower-like,
With help from good old S.T.C.

Perhaps the bashful mourn in vain,
Perhaps their pain is never stilled.
(Insert name), can we through song kill pain,
And perhaps be together filled?

Could we with love ameliorate
And above all our problems float?
Or through friendship communicate
Then discover an antidote?

Could we kiss ourselves awake,
Then find that tree of shelter,
A place to which we can escape.
And a place where we can melt her?

Could we find our heart's true desire
Be comforted through comforting
Find a way to travel higher
And be repaired while repairing?

Could we make sense of inner worlds,
Knowing, through a relationship
So finely cut and deeply knurled,
That we could never lose our grip?

Could we catalyse our dreams,
And shine in love's clear light,
Love is everything it seems,
And diamonds shine most in light.

We're two people, sad and lonely,
And if I'm scorned, I'll understand,
But I hope you don't disown me,
If loved, by you I'll firmly stand.

Were I with you, and you with me,
(Insert name), and there was weariness
Or affliction I'd carry thee
Till forever, and never rest.

I'd strike every danger to hell,
Cast any obstacle aside,
The fears that so bother you quell,
And well-being more tranquil provide.

If I were yours, and you were mine,
(Insert name), I'd weep with you gently
And gaze with you on western skies
In the times of calamity.

Suppress the ache, subdue with strength
The pain, on no one else depend;
Can we?  We move toward and thence,
Together, better comprehend.

Close meetings with those hard-hearted,
Can sometimes leave us feeling blue.
And wishing we'd never started.
I'd like to spend more time with you.

Time counts and swiftly disappears.
Without music life's spiritless;
These are surely the best of years.
Not all grasped prizes are worthless.

How about it: could I your hand hold?
Can you see the things that I see?
Who can tell what joys might unfold,
Of friendship, love and liberty.
