A Riddle for Shakespeare
We toil in our follies
at the edge of the world,
as if there was no end in sight,
wrapped in a poem;
much too long for the night,
"And yet, very literally,
it is a priceless thing.." ― Thomas Carlyle

The poet's torment, likely experienced often by Shakespear. Excellently penned.

Endlessness indeed, yet to conquer oneself is priceless; if one even knows what it means. I think that you do. Thank you.

"wrapped in a poem/much too long for the night" That's beautiful. My favorite line in Shakespeare is "Stars, hide thy fires/Let not light see my black and deep desires." That's Macbeth trying to psych himself for the murder of the princes. Kind of backfired, as things turned out. Anyway, enjoyed the riddle.

I know him best through his Sonnets. Shakespeare is priceless, as is devotion to poetry, language; this lyrical symbolism for all mankind. Thank you for the compliment. Yes, there is but one poem, much too long for the night. (I even love saying it) :)

the sonnets are enigmatic on
several levels, of course, but
on one they are quite clear...
procreate or else..:)

I couldn't say enough about him. He was a master. I truly love the sonnets. I've been there all day.
